How to Find the Best Nursing Bra for ...
The right nursing bra can make a world of difference in your breastfeeding journey. Whether you're feeding at home, out and about, or simply needing comfort through the night, a well-fitted nursing bra provides the support and ease you need—without compromising on function. If you're unsure where to start, our nursing bra collection includes styles designed for comfort, convenience, and every stage of feeding. You can also book a professional fitting, in-store or virtually, to find the right size and support for your body as it changes.
Let’s explore how to choose the best nursing bra for easy, stress-free breastfeeding.
How to Choose a Nursing Bra
Your breast size will likely fluctuate during pregnancy and breastfeeding, which is why choosing a nursing bra that adapts to your body is essential. Here’s what to look for when shopping for one:
Wire-free or flexible underwire: Many mums prefer wire-free styles to avoid pressure on milk ducts, but some nursing bras with flexible underwire, like the Molly Underwire Nursing Bra, offer gentle support and a flattering shape—as long as they are fitted correctly.
Adjustable features: Multiple rows of hooks and adjustable straps allow you to accommodate changes in breast size and ensure the perfect fit.
Drop-down or pull-aside nursing cups: This is key for easy breastfeeding access, especially for those early days and night feeds.
Soft, breathable fabrics: Look for cotton or bamboo-based designs like the My Comfort Wire Free Nursing Bra, which is gentle on sensitive skin and ultra-comfortable for everyday wear.
Supportive structure: Look for designs that lift and support without compression, which could block breast milk flow.
Many mums find that a well-designed maternity bra or sleepwear is a great place to start, especially in the final trimester or immediately after birth. You can browse our maternity collection for a range of comfortable, supportive options.
Best Nursing Bra for Breastfeeding
The best nursing bras will depend on your needs, day vs. night wear, comfort vs. lift, or style vs. functionality. Some top choices include:
Sleep Bras or Tanks: Ideal for night feeds, these soft cup styles provide gentle support you can comfortably wear for hours. Try the Toffee Nursing Tank — it’s seamless, stretchy, and perfect for overnight comfort.
Maternity Bras with Drop-Down Cups: These are designed to carry you from pregnancy through to breastfeeding with ease. The Warrior Multifit Nursing Bra is a beautiful and practical option, offering soft support with quick-release clips.
Wire-Free Nursing Bras: Great for everyday wear, wire-free bras offer comfort and flexibility without risking blocked ducts. The Rock Candy Seamless Nursing Bra combines support, stretch, and a flattering shape—all without wires.
Flexible Underwire Bras: If you prefer more structure and lift, flexible underwire styles like the Ana Underwired Nursing Bra give you that little extra shape while still being feeding-friendly.
It’s also important to wear a bra that accommodates nursing pads and doesn’t press too tightly on the milk ducts—especially in the early stages when your milk supply is still regulating. Look for designs with soft linings and flexible structure, like the Ambition Wirefree Smooth Nursing Bra, to help prevent discomfort and blocked ducts.

Maternity Bra Guide
During your pregnancy, everything changes, from a newfound nesting obsession to using your belly as a table. And don’t forget your breasts - when you think they’ve changed shape for the last time, they change again. Gone are the days of the ugly, styleless maternity bras. Today there are so many styles, forms, and designs to choose from that it can become a little overwhelming and confusing.
We have spoken to DeBra’s Senior Fitting Consultants, who have shared tips for buying maternity bras to help you along the way.
Debra's Maternity Bra Guide
What Is A Maternity Bra?
A maternity bra is specially crafted to provide extra support and comfort for expecting and nursing mothers. With adjustable straps, soft fabrics, and flexible designs, it accommodates your changing body, ensuring you feel confident and cared for throughout your motherhood journey. At DeBra's, we believe in celebrating every stage of life with the perfect fit.
When To Buy A Maternity Bra?
Timing is everything. There is no hard science as to when is the right time for a maternity bra, as every woman is different and develops differently during pregnancy. We’re all different, so when it comes to the best time to find your maternity bra, it’s a ‘you kind of thing’. There are some facts to bear in mind in terms of timing. Your breasts get busy gearing up for lactation early in pregnancy. Most changes in the breast usually happen within the first ten weeks; however, you should listen to your body. You’ll feel and know when you’re growing out of your regular bra.
Within four months of gestation, your breasts will have adapted and done most of their changing. If you haven’t already needed to, this is a great time to get professionally fitted. The key to a great maternity bra is buying one that works now; if it’s too big or too small, it’s useless. It would help if you had the proper comfort and support now, not later.
The breasts start to prepare for lactation quite early in most pregnancies. Around 16 weeks gestation is when most changes to the breast have occurred and is a recommended time to get fitted.
Your Body Knows The Best
Maternity bras might not be for you, and we are not here to change your mind. As your body changes through your pregnancy, you may feel your breasts becoming heavier. If you find wearing a bra, in general, to be annoying and limiting, you may not be filled with joy at the thought of buying a maternity bra. But until you find the right bra, they’ll always feel wrong. During pregnancy, wearing a bra can save your breast tissues from stretching and the resulting sag. On the flip side, if you get a poor fit, you may experience strain in your shoulders, neck and back, resulting in damaged breast tissue.
How To Choose A Maternity Bra?
The fewer seams, the better when it comes to maternity bras. To steer clear of chafing around your nipples, choose a bra without seams of stitches across them. Maternity bras have cup linings made from cotton or natural fibres, which is good for ouchy, sensitive boobs. If you want to sleep in your maternity bra – they can be a bed-friendly option if your breasts hurt while you’re lying down due to hormonal shifts and fluid build-up. If you’re reluctant to try a maternity bra or a maternity singlet, try the Toffee Nursing Tank, which has all the support without the seams.
Find Fiddly-free
Not all maternity bras are Bridget Jones-y; all structure and no style. There are plenty of choices now, and they’re beautiful too. It’s important to feel like you, so pick the look to boost your breasts and sense of self. Go for something with easy closures because – who’s got time for all the fiddling? Make sure they function like a finely oiled machine; practise opening and closing the tabs and bra flaps. You’ll be doing this a lot, so it needs to work for you.
A Growing Solution
Maternity bra sizing is the same as for regular bras. But – your boobs won’t be, so a fab fit is a key to comfort. Fingers crossed, if you get your maternity bra fitted at the right time in your pregnancy, you may only need to shop once. But more often than not, your breasts will tell you if your bra is getting too small, so get ready to go bra-shopping more than once. If you buy in trimester one or two, the tail end of your pregnancy may see you back for another bra. Maternity bras are unique – they have up to seven rows of hooks at the back, so they can extend as your baby grows and pushes everything up. Then after bub is born, you can tighten it up again.

Pregnancy Recovery Wear Claimable Thr...
It shouldn't surprise anyone that a woman's body won't return to how it was straight after giving birth. Several products available for women to wear post-pregnancy say they'll help "conceal" some of these changes. However, they may not offer the right features that assist in repairing and toning your body after birth. If you're a new mum, it's worth taking a look into buying yourself a pair of pregnancy compression tights or shorts to aid your recovery. You can check out our new range of SRC pregnancy compression wear here.
The best part? They may be claimable through your private health fund!
What Is Pregnancy Recovery Wear?
Post-pregnancy compression wear can assist in reducing pain and provide support to increase your mobility and function. Wearing pregnancy compression tights will help you across various potential issues, such as pelvic instability and vulvar varicosities. They promote a faster recovery for mums who experience discomfort after delivery by supporting abdominal muscle recovery. Other vital benefits of wearing pregnancy compression wear include:
Promoting a quicker recovery so your uterus can return to its standard size and your tummy will look smaller.
Providing support with your posture and replacing your core support to assist with back pain.
Promote better blood circulation to reduce swelling after pregnancy, which may occur in your legs, ankles and feet.
Better support for exercise promotes better blood circulation through your legs and provides extra stability in your joints.
Can I Claim Through My Private Health?
If you have private health insurance within Australia, it's worth looking into your eligibility for a rebate on pregnancy recovery wear with your provider. Most private healthcare insurers in Australia will provide a rebate to customers who purchase SRC products, as these are considered medical compression garments for recovering mothers.
To claim your rebate, you can print the rebate form here. You then need to take this to your health care provider, such as your GP or specialist and ask them to fill in the details and sign. Once the form is complete, send it with your invoice for the SRC products purchased to your private healthcare insurer. Remember, not all private healthcare providers will offer this rebate, and we recommend reaching out to your healthcare fund provider for more information before submitting the form.
For more information, visit SRC Health here, or you may wish to browse DeBra's Recovery and Compression wear first.
