If you've never had a professional bra fitting before, it's completely normal to feel a little unsure about what to expect. In fact, some of the most common concerns we hear are "Will it be awkward?" and "What actually happens during a fitting?"
The good news is that a bra fitting is straightforward, relaxed, and entirely focused on helping you feel comfortable. Most appointments take around 30 minutes, and many women leave wondering why they didn't do it sooner. Here's exactly what to expect when you book an in-store fitting at DeBra's.
Before Your Appointment
Fittings at DeBra's are free and available by appointment. You can book online at your preferred time for either the Penrith or Gold Coast store.
A few things that will help your fitting go smoothly:
- Wear a bra you already own - your fitter will assess how your current bra fits as part of the process, which gives valuable information about what needs to change
- You do not need to have any idea of your size - that is exactly what the fitting is for
- There is no obligation to buy anything - the fitting is genuinely free and the goal is to find you the right fit, not to sell you the most expensive bra in the room
If you'd like to see how a bra looks under clothing, don't worry about bringing a fitted top. We keep white T-shirts in our fitting rooms specifically for this purpose, allowing you to see how different styles look and feel under everyday clothing before making a decision.
Why We Recommend Booking Ahead
While we always welcome walk-in customers, booking your fitting is the best way to ensure you receive dedicated time with one of our fitters.
Some days are much busier than others, and it can be difficult to predict when the fitting rooms will be fully booked. Customers with appointments are given priority, so walking in on a busy day may mean waiting for the next available fitter.
When you book, we reserve both a fitting room and a fitter specifically for you, helping everything run smoothly from the moment you arrive.
Although fitting appointments are scheduled for 30 minutes, that's simply a guide. If you need a little longer to explore different styles, ask questions, or compare options, that's absolutely fine. Our fitters will never rush you - we're here to help you find the right fit, however long that takes.
When You Arrive
You will be greeted by one of DeBra's female fitters and taken to a private fitting room. The fitting rooms are designed for privacy and comfort - you will not be in an open space or a shared area.
Your fitter will start by asking a few simple questions: what you are finding uncomfortable about your current bra, what you tend to wear day-to-day, whether you have any specific concerns about fit, and whether there are particular styles you like or want to avoid. This conversation shapes the whole appointment - your fitter is building a picture of what you actually need, not just your measurements.
Most customers are surprised by how conversational the process feels. Rather than focusing on numbers or measurements alone, your fitter is there to understand what's working, what's not, and how your bras fit into your everyday life. There is no judgement, no pressure, and no expectation that you should already know your size or what styles suit you.
The Fitting Itself
DeBra's fitters do not rely on a tape measure alone. While measurements can be a useful starting point, the fitting happens on your body - with bras on - rather than from numbers on paper. Every body is different, and breast shape, tissue density, and natural position all affect how a size fits, in ways a measuring tape cannot capture.
Your fitter will bring in several styles in a starting size and guide you through what to look for in each:
- Whether the band sits level and firm around the ribcage without riding up
- Whether the underwire (if present) sits flat against the body beneath the breast tissue, not on it
- Whether the cup fully contains the breast tissue without gaping, pinching, or spillage at the edges
- Whether the centre gore (the piece between the cups) lies flat against the sternum
- Whether the straps sit comfortably without digging or slipping
One question we hear regularly is whether you'll need to be topless during the fitting. The answer is no. Your fitter assesses how bras fit while you're wearing them, and will step out of the fitting room whenever you need to change. Your comfort and privacy are always the priority.
You will try on multiple styles. Some will be right, some will not - and your fitter will explain why as you go. This is one of the most valuable parts of a fitting. Your fitter won't just tell you whether a bra works - they'll explain why. You'll learn what good fit looks and feels like, what features suit your shape, and what to look for when shopping in the future. Many customers tell us they leave feeling like they've had a mini bra-fitting education as well as found a great bra.
Why Size Isn't the Only Thing We Look At
Finding the right bra is about much more than identifying a size. Two women can wear exactly the same size and suit completely different styles depending on their breast shape, tissue distribution, and personal preferences.
That's why your fitter is looking at both size and shape throughout the appointment. A bra that technically fits can still feel uncomfortable or unsupportive if the style isn't suited to your body. Part of your fitter's job is helping narrow down which styles are likely to work best for you, so you're not left guessing.
This is why shape matters as much as size - and why the fitting conversation covers both. For more on how shape affects bra fit, read our guide on breast shapes and which bras suit them.
More Than What's on the Shop Floor
Some customers visit DeBra's planning to simply browse, and you're absolutely welcome to do that. What many people don't realise, however, is that what you see on the shop floor is only part of the range available.
Our fitters have access to additional sizes, styles, colours, and options that may not be displayed at the time of your visit. More importantly, they know the collection inside and out.
If you're looking for something specific - perhaps a bra that stays hidden under a particular neckline, a style that prevents strap slippage, a supportive wire-free option, or a solution to a fit problem you've struggled with for years - chances are your fitter already knows exactly where to start.
One of the biggest benefits of a fitting is having someone who understands the range guide you towards styles that suit your shape, needs, and preferences. It often means discovering options you may never have picked up on your own.
Trying Styles and Making Decisions
Once your fitter has established your correct size and the styles that suit your shape, you will try on a selection of bras from DeBra's range. You are welcome to take your time, move around in the fitting room, and ask as many questions as you want.
There is no pressure to decide quickly or to buy a specific style. If you love everything you try, great. If you need to think about it, that is completely fine too. Many customers return after a fitting to make their purchase once they have had time to consider their options.
How Long Does a Fitting Take?
A standard fitting takes around 30 minutes, though this can vary depending on how many styles you want to explore. If you have specific requirements - such as post-surgery fitting, maternity fitting, or mastectomy fitting - allow a little extra time. It's worth it.
After Your Fitting
You'll leave with a clearer understanding of your size, the styles that suit your shape, and the features that make the biggest difference to your comfort and support. This knowledge is genuinely useful every time you shop for bras in the future, whether that's with us or elsewhere.
Whether you leave with one bra, several bras, or simply a better understanding of what works for your body, our goal is the same: to help you feel more comfortable, more confident, and better supported than when you arrived.
If getting to a store is difficult, DeBra's also offers complimentary virtual fitting by Zoom, bringing the same expert guidance into the comfort of your own home.
Ready to experience the difference for yourself? Book a complimentary fitting at our Penrith or Gold Coast store and let one of our experienced fitters help you find the right size, shape, and support for your body.
